BY NEXT YEAR. NEW AT TEN. THE RESULTS ARE IN FOR A VOTE TO REALLOCATE TAX DOLLARS IN GRETNA’S GOOD LIFE DISTRICT. WELL, THE DEADLINE FOR THE ALL MAIL IN ELECTION WAS 5 P.M. TONIGHT, AND BILL SCHAMMERT IS ON THE LIVE DESK WITH THE RESULTS. BILL. ROB. JULIE. CLOSE TO SAY THE LEAST. IT APPEARS THE MEASURE HAS PASSED BY JUST 15 VOTES. 1044 TO 1029. VOTER TURNOUT CAME IN AT ABOUT 33%. THIS IS THE AREA WE’RE TALKING ABOUT. THE GRETNA GOOD LIFE DISTRICT. THE EDGES VERY SLIGHTLY, BUT IT BASICALLY STRETCHES SOUTH TO PLATTEVIEW ROAD AND NORTH TO CAPEHART ROAD. IT’S BOUND BY HIGHWAY SIX ON THE WEST AND 204TH ON THE EAST. 2000 TOTAL ACRES. A GOOD LIFE DISTRICT ALLOWS FOR A LOWER STATE TAX RATE FROM 5.5% TO 2.75%, WHAT THIS VOTE DID WAS ALLOW FOR THAT 2.75%. THAT WAS ORIGINALLY CUT TO INSTEAD GO TO A GRETNA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. ONCE IMPLEMENTED. ONCE THAT IMPLEMENTATION HAPPENS, BUYERS WOULD PAY A NORMAL SALES TAX. BUT GRETNA GETS TO KEEP HALF OF WHAT WOULD ORIGINALLY HAVE GONE TO THE STATE. IT HAS THE SUPPORT OF GRETNA’S MAYOR, AND THAT REVENUE IS TO BE USED TO CREATE THESE TRANSFORMATIVE DISTRICTS THAT CREATE ALL THIS ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE. BUT IT’S NOT A STATE AND CITY INCENTIVE. IT’S A STATE INCENTIVE THAT THE CITY IS A PART OF. KEEP IN MIND, THESE RESULTS ARE UNOFFICIAL RIGHT NOW. THE MAYOR TOLD ME ABOUT AN HOUR AGO HE UNDERSTANDS HOW CLOSE THIS ELECTION WAS, AND THAT THEY’LL MAKE SURE ANY PROJECT IS FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE. THERE HAVE BEEN PROPOSALS AND BIG IDEAS FROM ROD YATES, THE NEBRASKA CROSSING DEVELOPER, BUT HE RECENTLY PULLE
