The Good Life District allows for a lower state tax rate from 5.5% to 2.75%.
What this vote did was allow for that 2.75% that was originally cut to instead go to a Gretna economic development program.
So, once implemented, buyers will pay a normal sales tax., but Gretna gets to keep half of what would originally go to the state.
It has the support of Gretna's mayor.
There have been proposals and big ideas from Rod Yates, the Nebraska Crossing owner, for this Gretna area, but the mayor said he pulled out of the deal on Monday.
